Are you looking for ideas on Father’s Day gifts for that special beer loving man in your life? If so, take a look at these ideas:

Beer Tasting Set: A set of specialized beer glasses designed to enhance the flavor and aroma of different beer styles. Look for a set that includes glasses for different types of beer, such as pilsners, IPAs, stouts, and wheat beers.

Libbey Craft Brews Assorted Beer Glasses, Set of 6, 20 fl.oz.

Craft Beer Subscription: Treat your dad to a monthly or quarterly delivery of unique and flavorful craft beers from different breweries. Subscription services often provide a variety of beer styles and allow your dad to discover new favorites.

Beer Making Kit: For dads who enjoy a hands-on experience, a beer making kit can be an exciting gift. These kits typically include the ingredients and equipment needed to brew beer at home. Look for kits that cater to different skill levels, from beginner to advanced.

Personalized Beer Growler: A beer growler is a reusable container used to transport draft beer from breweries. Consider getting a personalized growler with your dad’s name or initials engraved on it. It’s a practical and thoughtful gift for beer lovers.

Beer Books: There are numerous books available that delve into the world of beer, including its history, brewing techniques, beer and food pairing, and more. Look for titles recommended by beer experts or choose a book focusing on your dad’s favorite beer styles.

Brewery Tour or Beer Festival Tickets: Give your dad the gift of an immersive beer experience by purchasing tickets to a brewery tour or a beer festival. It’s an opportunity for him to explore different breweries, taste a variety of beers, and enjoy the beer community.

Craft Beer Brewery Guide to All 50 States: A Comprehensive Travel Guide to Over 1000 Breweries, Taprooms, Beer Gardens & Brewpubs in the US.

Beer Accessories: Consider gifting your dad some useful beer accessories like a beer caddy or carrier for picnics and outings, a quality bottle opener, a beer koozie to keep his beer cold, or even a beer-scented candle for a beer-themed ambiance.

Beer-themed Clothing or Merchandise: Look for beer-related t-shirts, hats, or hoodies featuring your dad’s favorite brewery or beer brand. Additionally, beer-themed merchandise like coasters, bottle openers, and signs can make great additions to his beer-drinking space.

Beer-related Experiences: Consider arranging a beer tasting event or a beer and food pairing dinner for your dad. You could book a private tasting session at a local brewery or arrange for a chef to create a beer-infused menu at a restaurant.

Hope your dad will enjoy one of these items a bit more than another tie, or even worse, another coffee mug!

Recently I asked my Instagram followers what makes you almost immediately want to leave a brewery that you’re at and what would make you want to stay longer than you had anticipated? Below are the answers I received from my followers.

What makes you want to almost immediately want to leave a brewery?

Let’s start with all the controversial/political talk:

 • Sexist/racist side chatter from bar guests or especially staff
 • Fox News playing
 • A blue lives matter flag
 • MAGA merch
 • Indoor smoking
 • Non inclusive/not a safe space for everyone
 • Confederate flags/camo
 • Drag shows

Moving onto the staff:

 • Bad/lack of service
 • Rude bartenders
 • Condescending beertenders
 • The front staff aren’t open and welcoming
 • Obvious sexism/racism/homophobia displayed by staff

The beer situation:

 • Bad beer
 • Beer served in wine glasses
 • Just IPAs
 • They ran out of beer
 • No IPA’s over 7%
 • No west coast IPAs

Cleanliness (or lack of):

 • It’s dirty
 • Dirty glasses and tables everywhere
 • Lack of sanitation/hygiene
 • Bad smell
 • Seeing gross cleanliness behind the bar or in the kitchen
 • Rats
 • A fly in the glass
 • Unkept restrooms

The vibe is off:

 • Super load live music
 • Bad music
 • Country music
 • Obnoxious drunks
 • Loud, screaming kids
 • Too crowded
 • Seeing an ex
 • Lack of parking
 • Karaoke

Now let’s move onto the good. What would make you stay at a brewery longer than you anticipated staying?

It’s all about the staff:

 • Bar staff enjoying working with each other/chatting with regulars
 • Attention and engagement from the staff
 • A nice and welcoming beertender
 • Friendly staff
 • Good service
 • Willingness of staff to talk about the beers
 • Knowledgeable bartenders

The main reason you come to a brewery:

 • Amazing beer
 • Multiple IPAs available
 • Glasses larger than a pint
 • Variety of beers so you can keep trying something new
 • Price of beverages
 • Free beer
 • Bottomless fruited sours
 • A good beer sale
 • Variety of beer styles
 • Draft and cans available

Vibing:

 • A friendly and social bar
 • Fabulous outdoor space
 • Good music
 • Good atmosphere
 • Decor and theme
 • Table top activities/games
 • Dogs are allowed
 • Live music
 • Good company
 • Great sports game on TV
 • A fun crowd
 • Comfy seating
 • It’s kid friendly
 • Making new friends

Making sure our stomach is full:

 • Good food available
 • Food trucks
 • Free popcorn

So there you have it! Thank you to those of you who sent in answers. I hope everyone has more good brewery experiences than bad.

I am assuming if you are reading this you are a craft beer lover. I also am assuming that many of you have your own quirks or as I referred to them on my Instagram page, “toxic” traits when it comes to drinking craft beer. For example, my “toxic” trait is that I rarely finish all of my beer. 90% of the time I leave just a little in the bottom of my glass. Why do I do this? I have no idea.

Maybe I have some weird phobia of having an empty glass, or maybe my brain just tells me the end of a beer is nothing but sediment and/or backwash. Whatever the reason may be, I can almost guarantee you that if you go drinking with me you will more than likely never see me finish my beer completely.

I reached out to followers on my story and I asked them what their “toxic” craft beer trait is. Below are all the responses. Are you guilty of doing any of these things?

 • “Sometimes I just drink straight out of the can because I don’t want to have to wash a glass”
 • “I force myself to finish a beer I ordered but don’t like just because I don’t want to waste it.”
 • “I try to keep up with someone who I know can drink much faster than me and end up getting drunk.”
 • “Not drinking a seasonal beer in a timely manner.”
 • “I will commit alcohol abuse if I don’t like a beer. I try to find someone else to drink it…but can’t always.”
 • “Ordering one too many when I know I should stop.”
 • “Buying beer for home and never drinking it because I go out for beers.”
 • “I think I can have one more Tripel when I should just not.”
 • “Mixing beers throughout the evening and not keeping track of their ABV.”
 • “As soon as I see floating remnants of bottle-conditioned beer, I can’t drink it anymore.”
 • “Drinking a whole 6pk in an evening and then wanting more because I haven’t hit that level.”
 • “Drinking too many high ABV beers at the beginning of beer festivals.”

Are there any other ones that should be added to the list? If so, let me know in the comments.

It seems that in the last year or so non alcoholic beer has been trending. More and more people want to enjoy the taste of beer without the calories or alcohol. I have tried 4 different N/A beers and I will share my rating and thoughts below. **Full disclosure, the beers from Nirvana were gifted, but the opinions I will share are my own.*

Untitled Art: Juicy IPA

 • 19 grams of carbs
 • 3 grams of sugar
 • 90 calories

My rating: 4/10

I am a fan of most beers from Untitled Art, but this one is a miss for me. I was hoping to really enjoy this beer because it is advertised as a Juicy IPA which is my favorite style. Sadly this didn’t taste all that juicy or really even IPA. This tasted to me like a flat iced tea with a little bit of bitterness. However, my husband thought it wasn’t bad and didn’t get the tea taste I was describing. Guess this will have to be one you try for yourself to see what flavor you taste.

Nirvana Brewery: Hoppy Pale

 • 5 grams of carbs
 • 25 calories

My rating: 8/10

This was my favorite N/A out of the bunch. It actually had a hoppy taste and tasted more like beer than the others. This beer was refreshing tasting and surprised me with the low amount of both calories and carbs. It did taste a bit flat and I felt like I could still tell it was a N/A beer, but overall I’d drink this again. You can find Nirvana’s full line of N/A beers on Amazon.

Guinness: Non Alcoholic Draught

 • 13.5 grams of carbs
 • 60 calories

My rating: 7/10

This “Guinness” surprised me because the can has a widget, it poured just like a traditional Guinness, and it looked like a traditional Guinness in the glass. The one thing I didn’t care for though was that it is quite a bit sweeter than a traditional Guinness. My husband is an avid Guinness drinker, and he said he would definitely drink these if he wanted a N/A option.

Nirvana Brewery: Dark Roast

 • 16 grams of carbs
 • 9 grams of sugar
 • 70 calories

My rating: 4/10

This was my least favorite beer of the bunch. There really isn’t a description of what type of “beer” this is, but to me, this was the “beer” that tasted the least amount like an actual beer. This had a lot of flavors, but not flavors you would expect to have in a beer. This was another beer that tastes like herbal tea. I personally wouldn’t try this one again.

What are your thoughts on N/A beer? Have you tried any? If so, which one(s) have been your favorites? I feel like there are many N/A drink options out there, so I will probably stay away from purchasing any more N/A beer. However, if you’re pregnant or just want to take a break from alcohol, there are plenty of decent options out there for you to try.

I just got back from two days spent in Denver attending the Great American Beer Festival. I had an absolutely awesome time, but there are a few things I wish I would have known in advance to make my visit even better. Read my list below so you won’t make the same rookie mistakes.

 1. See if you qualify for any sort of pass. I was able to attend the festival with a media pass. There are certain requirements for getting a pass, but they aren’t as stringent as you would think. I ran into several people who met these requirements but didn’t even know a media pass was an option. The pass allows you to attend the festival for free, bypass the lines and could include invites to other events. Pay attention before tickets go on sale next year to see if you qualify.
 1. Do not bring anything large to the festival. The venue does allow you to bring in small purses, but I suggest you bring in nothing you have to carry. There isn’t storage inside the venue and it gets rather packed in there. I saw so many ladies struggling to try to hold their bags, the drinking glass, and phones. I personally brought in a small wristlet so my hands could be free.
 1. Do not rely on having a cell signal and/or wifi. I attended the festival on both Thursday and Friday and was saddened to see that the wifi didn’t work and the cell service was beyond spotty. GABF does have its own web-based app, but it didn’t work at all once so many people got inside. Also, make sure your phone battery is charged. Searching for a signal will wear out your battery quickly!
 1. Have a game plan! You will for sure be overwhelmed once you get inside. It is busy, loud, and overwhelming. Have a list (written somewhere) of your must-try breweries. If you have a goal you won’t feel so overwhelmed.
 1. Eat a filling meal before you arrive at the festival. Besides it is a good idea to have a full stomach before you consume a ton of alcohol, you will quickly realize that there aren’t many food options at the festival. There were a few vendors there, but the lines were all very long. I made sure to have a filling breakfast and a semi-healthy but filling lunch before I arrived.
 1. Speaking of lines, make sure you use a bathroom before you arrive and don’t “break the seal” too early on. The lines for the bathrooms (especially the men’s) can be longer than the food lines. Pro-tip, there are a set of bathrooms right outside the exit to the venue. You are able to walk out to use these restrooms and come right back in. This is what I did and never had to wait in line.
 2. Visit the sponsored booths. Yes, everyone attended for the beer, but I also enjoyed walking around and seeing what other vendors are there. Some vendors were giving out free swag/products. Two of my favorites were The Beer Spa and Pub Pass.
 1. Attend on Thursday for the least amount of crowds and the most amount of beer. I attended both the Thursday and Friday sessions and Thursday by far was less crowded. Also, the beer being poured is first come first served, so that means many of the popular beers will be gone by Saturday (some even on Friday). If you are able to attend the Thursday session I highly recommend it.
 1. Try beers that are different or unusual. Remember there are breweries from all over the United States at this festival. Don’t just focus on the beer you can get from your home state. Venture out and try beer from breweries you never heard of. You are only given about 1 oz pours, so if you don’t care for the beer you can find plenty of places to dump it.
 1. Last but not least, it seems like a no-brainer… PACE YOURSELF. There are so many beers to try, so remember, even if you attend all three days you won’t try them all. If you are traveling from out of state remember our altitude and how that can affect you. Drink water, take breaks, and eat food. Trust me, you don’t want such a bad hangover you can’t enjoy yourself the next day.

Did you attend the Great American Beer Festival this year? If so, is there anything you think I forgot? What are your tricks and tips?

The post 10 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started my Craft Beer Journey first appeared on Girl Meets Beer.]]>
I’ve been in the “craft beer game” for ten years now, and there are a few things I wish I knew before I started my journey.

 1. It is more of a marathon than a race. There are SO many breweries to explore and even more beer to try. You will NEVER get to them all. Don’t feel like you have to visit them all or try every beer. You will quickly be burnt out (and broke) if you do.
 2. Speaking of money, craft beer isn’t exactly cheap. When you go to a brewery be prepared to spend anywhere from $5-$8 on a beer. Yes, domestic beer is cheaper, however, remember what you’re paying for when you buy craft. You are supporting local and you are probably getting fresher (and tastier) beer.
 3. Most craft beer drinkers are not “Beer Snobs” like you have probably heard. When I first got into beer I was nervous that maybe I wouldn’t be accepted into the community because I was still learning. The majority of craft beer drinkers are helpful and welcoming. Don’t let what others say scare you away.
 1. Craft beer is more than just drinking beer. It is a chance for you to learn about what you’re drinking. If you visit a local brewery, the brewer is probably somewhere in the back. Have a question about what beer you’re drinking or how the beer was made? Go ahead and ask! Most brewers love sharing their passion and will be willing to answer any questions you might have.
 2. The beertenders at a brewery usually love to talk to you and give you recommendations. I feel bartenders at traditional bars are so busy making cocktails and taking orders, that they often don’t just have time to talk to their customers. Now I am not saying beertenders don’t get busy, but it does take less time pouring a beer than making a cocktail. I feel like beertenders use their downtime to really get to know their customers. They also love to give you recommendations on other local places to visit.
 3. There isn’t nearly as much competition between breweries as you might think. Breweries seem to love to work with other breweries. They are often making beers together and helping each other out in various ways.
 1. Beer calories sadly DO count. Beer is damn good, and just like a lot of things that taste good, it isn’t exactly good for you. If you are trying to lose weight, you might want to watch your beer intake.
 2. Watch the ABV levels when drinking craft beer. Craft beer has a tendency to “sneak up” on you. When you are drinking a regular ol’ domestic beer the ABV is usually much lower. However, that isn’t usually the case when drinking craft beer. Keep that in mind before you head out for a night of drinking.
 1. It can be a bit addicting. Not necessarily the alcohol, but just the thrill of it all. Once I became hooked, I was hooked for life. I love the community, the passion, the beer, brewery exploring, and everything that goes with it. Before you know it you are booking vacations based on what breweries you want to visit.
 2. Lastly, craft beer will bring SO much more into your life besides a few extra pounds and lighter wallet. I’ve met some of my best friends at beer festivals, bottle shares, and breweries. These are people who “get me” and understand why I would stand outside in 90 degree temps or in terrible downpours just for some beer. They are people that I absolutely love and I know will always be there for me. Do you find it difficult making friends as an adult? Head to your local brewery and I can almost guarantee you you’ll meet someone and will form a friendship.

So there you have it! My list of 10 things I wish I knew before I started my craft beer journey. Anything I missed? Let me know!

I posted on my Instagram story asking for people to send in questions as to what it is like being a Beer Instagrammer or as others call it, an “influencer.” Below are the questions with my answers.

Question: Do you vary your types based on the season or just drink what you like when you want?

Answer: This really depends. If I am just drinking a beer to enjoy the beer (meaning I don’t plan on posting about it) I will drink whatever I feel like at the moment. However, I do try to plan certain beers for certain occasions for posts on my Instagram. For example, for major holidays I try to find a beer that I feel “fits” with that holiday. I will then save that beer for the day of the holiday and drink it and post about it that day.

Question: Is your husband jealous of your fame?

Answer: Seeing that I don’t really have any “fame,” I don’t think so. In fact, he actually likes all the perks I get from having a beer Instagram account. He has never complained when a beer box shows up at our house, or when I ask him to help me do a photoshoot at a local bar/brewery.

Question: Why do people want to see your feet?

Answer: People are WEIRD! I have no idea why people have asked me (countless times) to see pictures of my feet. My answer is always the same, NO.

Question: How long does it take to put together an IG post about a brewery visit?

Answer: It all depends. Usually my process for just a post (the first time I visit a brewery) is this: I take some pictures of the outside brewery, while looking at the menu I take a few pictures of the bar area, when I am waiting for my beer I take a few pictures of the inside, and when my beer arrives I take many pictures of it. I don’t always use every picture, but I like to have a variety. Also, I usually upload my photos to an editing app (I personally use Lightroom) and take some time editing. If it is a brewery I’ve been to many times I don’t usually do all of that, but I still edit all my photos and figure out what hashtags to use. So all in all it really depends. A post could take as short as 5 minutes to post all the way up to 20 minutes.

Question: Do you judge breweries based on their own social media presence?

Answer: I sure do! I do not understand when breweries or bars chose not to use social media to help market their business. Instagram is FREE and it’s an app used by 1 billion people. It would only take someone a few minutes a day or even a week to post what beer you have and any other specials you might have. I personally check social media before I head to a bar or a brewery, and I like when I see they are active and have been letting their customers know what’s new.

Thanks to everyone who sent in questions! Please feel free to message me if you have any more questions.

Cheers!

The other day I asked my followers on Instagram to play a game of Would You Rather, but with a twist. All the questions (for the most part) connected to craft beer. I started off with coming up with some questions, and then I let my followers take over and create questions. Below I will share what they thought and if I agreed or disagreed with the majority and why.

A bar you’re at doesn’t have craft beer. Would you rather order a liquor drink or a domestic (basic beer)?

65% said liquor

35% said domestic

I AGREED with the majority here and went with liquor. I of course prefer to drink craft beer, but sometimes depending on where I am at that isn’t an option. In that case, I would much rather prefer ordering a Gin and Tonic or a Vodka Soda than say something like a Budlight. Also, I LOVE dive bars, but aren’t usually a fan of their beer selection, but they usually have a wide selection of liquor and they pour strong!

Would you rather go to a craft beer bar or a brewery?

81% said brewery

19% said craft beer bar

I AGREED with the majority and said a brewery. I personally love both, but I do find myself at a brewery more than a craft beer bar. Maybe it’s because there are just way more breweries around me than craft beer bars. Even though I like the variety a bar offers, I still prefer a brewery over a bar most days.

It’s a Friday night, would you rather drink at home or a brewery?

56% said brewery

44% said home

I AGREED with the majority and would prefer to spend my Friday night at a brewery. I have plenty of beer at home and could easily drink plenty there, but if I had the chance I would rather be at a brewery. Sadly my husband and I don’t get out often because babysitters are hard to find, but when we do, you can probably find us at a brewery.

It’s your first time at a brewery, would you rather order a flight of beer or just a pint of whatever sounds good?

66% said flight

34% said pint

I AGREED with the majority and enjoy ordering a flight when I visit a brewery for the first time. I like to try as much as I can, and a flight is the way to go! Also, if it is a brewery I am visiting while away from home and I know I probably won’t be back any time soon, I enjoy a flight just to try as much as I can while there. After my flight is done, I often order a pint of my favorite beer afterwards.

When at a bar/brewery would you rather order a dark beer or a light beer?

52% said light

48% said dark

I agreed with the majority and said light. To me a light beer I would order would be an IPA because they’re my favorite.

Would you rather go to a place that has excellent food but not a great draft list or a place that has an amazing draft list but no food?

77% said great draft list

23% said great food

I AGREED with the majority and said great draft list. I got a lot of messages about this one with people telling me it all depends on if they’re hungry or not. That of course makes total sense, but at the end of the day I am going to pick beer over food.

Would you rather snack on popcorn or pretzels while drinking beer?

70% said pretzels

30% said popcorn

I DISAGREED with the majority here and went with popcorn. I just love popcorn and always get happy when I see a brewery that has their own popcorn machine.

Would you rather play brewery bing or brewery trivia?

66% said trivia

34% said bingo

I DISAGREED with the majority here and went with bingo. Trivia requires too much thinking, and when I am out drinking I like to give my brain a break. Plus, when I am older and retired I will totally become a bingo playing grandma!

Would you rather have a bartender that is a beer “know it all” or knows nothing about beer?

83% said know it all

17% said knows nothing

I DISAGREED with the majority here and said I would want a bartender that knows nothing about beer. I have spent way too much time at breweries/bars with bartenders who think they know everything about the brewing process, beer, what I would like, etc. To me that’s annoying and at times cocky. I’ve been very involved in the craft beer world for over ten years, and I feel pretty confident with my knowledge. I would much rather enjoy my beer in peace than listen to someone give me a lesson the entire time.

Would you rather play pool or darts at a bar?

50% said pool

50% said darts

This was our only tie of the game, and I personally went with darts. I am terrible at both, but prefer darts over pool.

Would you rather go to a bar that only serves stouts or IPAs?

67% said IPAs

33% said stouts

I AGREED with the majority here and said IPAs. If you know me, you know I am an IPA girl, ‘Nuff said.

Would you rather travel to get your craft beer or have it mailed to you?

69% said travel

31% said mail

I AGREED with the majority and said I would rather travel. Yes, I understand it depends on many different factors, but if I had the choice to travel every weekend I’d do it!

Would you rather buy a brewery shirt or a brewery hat?

80% said shirt

20% said hat

I AGREED with the majority and said a shirt. I personally do not wear hats, so this was an easy question to answer.

Would you rather drink beer from a bottle or a can?

52% said can

48% said bottle

I AGREED with the majority and said can. This was a close one for sure! I said can for a few reasons. 1. I drink mostly IPAs and those are made to drink fresh. If you are not aging something I do not see why it needs to be in a bottle. Also, I live in Colorado where we have more sunshine than Florida. Cans protect the beer better from the sun, so it is a better fit for where I live.

Would you rather go to a brewery with a kitchen or one with rotating food trucks?

61% said food trucks

39% said kitchen

I DISAGREED with the majority and said kitchen. To me food trucks are unreliable. You never know for sure when they will be there, a lot of the time their menu is very specific and might not be something I want, and when I am drinking I usually just want some quick bar food.

Would you rather be at a brewery with live music or natural ambiance?

64% said natural ambiance

36% said live music

I AGREED with the majority and said natural ambiance. I usually am not a fan of live music. To me it is too loud and a lot of times not the type of music I would listen to. I would much rather prefer to have it quiet enough to enjoy a conversation with whoever I am with.

When you order a flight would you rather drink it in the order the bartender recommends or in whatever order you want?

61% said whatever you want

39% said how the bartender recommends

I DISAGREED with the majority here and said how the bartender recommends. Do I do this every time? No. However, most bartenders know what they are talking about, so why not drink it how they suggest?

Would you rather be at a crowded brewery with a good atmosphere or an empty one having a good conversation with the bartender?

66% said empty

34% said crowded

I AGREED with the majority here and said I would prefer an empty brewery with good conversation. I do not like anywhere that is crowded (especially during Covid times) so I would much rather have it not super busy and a time to talk to someone new.

Would you rather have a beer Instagram account with a lot of followers or just a few that you talk to regularly?

73% said a few

27% said a lot

I DISAGREED with the majority and said a lot. I have a decent amount of followers (close to 12k) and I feel that I get the best of both worlds. I have met so many great people that I do talk to and see on a regular basis AND I get to go to a lot of cool events, have been sent beer to try, and have been able to participate in some pretty cool things.

Would you rather buy a brewery sticker or a brewery koozie?

79% said sticker

21% said koozie

I AGREED with the majority and said sticker. I don’t normally drink my beer from a can, so a sticker just makes more sense to me.

Would you rather drink one beer at a time on a flight or sip them all first?

57% said one at a time

43% said sip them all first

I DISAGREED with the majority and said sip them all first. No real reason here, I just like to take a quick sip first and see which ones I like the most.

Would you rather ask for a recommendation at a brewery or just pick a beer?

59% said ask for a recommendation

41% said just pick a beer

I DISAGREED with the majority and said I would just pick a beer. I usually know what style I like, and just pick one of thoses. Sometimes though if I find myself stuck between a few different ones I will ask for a recommendation or a sample.

Would you rather go to breweries with great games or just a relaxing atmosphere?

85% said relaxing atmosphere

15% said great games

I AGREED with the majority and said relaxing atmosphere. I find some of the games really loud and annoying. I am usually at a brewery because I want to relax, not to play games.

Would you rather order a beer at 5% ABV or above?

74% said above

26% said 5%

I AGREED with the majority and said above 5%. Mostly because the majority of the beers I like are above that percentage. I am definitely not out trying to get drunk though.

Would you rather drink a funky sour or a fruited one?

62% said fruited

38% said funky

I AGREED with the majority and said fruited over funky. To be honest, I would probably never order either, but if I had to pick, it would be fruit over funk.

Would you rather day drink or evening drink?

56% said day drink

44% said evening drink

I AGREED with the majority and went with day drinking. The older I get the more I enjoy day drinking. You can enjoy your drinks, eat a lot of food, get some good sleep, and then wake up and feel good the next morning!

Would you rather drink a light or dark lager?

51% said light

49% said dark

I DISAGREED with the majority and said dark lager. No real reason here, I just prefer darker ones over lighter ones.

Would you rather drink a smoother beer or a bitter one?

68% said smoother

32% said bitter

I DISAGREED with the majority and picked bitter over smoother. To be bitter means IPAs and we all know how much I love them.

Would you rather order a seltzer or a cider at a bar/brewery?

62% said cider

38% said seltzer

I AGREED with the majority and said cider. I would probably never order either of them, but if I had to pick I would go with a cider.

Would you rather have table service or order at the bar?

71% said bar

29% said table

I AGREED with the majority and said order at the bar. I am probably going to be sitting at the bar, so I might as well order there.

Would you rather sit inside or outside at a brewery? (Let’s say the weather is nice)

76% said outside

24% said inside

I AGREED with the majority and said outside. If the weather is nice out I would much rather get some sun and enjoy my beer outside. However, it all depends on the outdoor space and what the inside of the brewery looks like.

That’s it! Thank you all for participating. I had a lot of fun and had some good conversations with others. I will definitely try to do this again someday!

Recently I reached out to some local Colorado Springs Brewery asking the brewers to share what their most popular beer is that they sell. I can’t say I am surprised that the majority of the breweries said their most popular beer style is an IPA.

Update: I received two more responses so I’ve updates this post to share them.

Lost Friend Brewing

Most popular beer name and style your brewery brews:

Homeward Bound, Hazy NEIPA

Description of the beer:

Bright citrus flavors, hazy, and juicy with a silky mouthfeel. Citra hops in the whirlpool and dry-hopped with Azacca, Citra, and Huell Melon hops. 7.1% ABV | 40 IBUs

Why you believe it’s the most popular beer you brew:

We believe this beer’s popularity is due to its deliciousness. It’s hoppy without being unpleasantly bitter or burning, it’s got a full mouthfeel without feeling heavy, and the hop profile gives it a tropical aroma and flavor without cloying sweetness.

Anything else you would like to share:

Fun fact for those who recognize the name of this beer: three of our fermenters are named Chance, Sassy, and Shadow.

Goat Patch Brewing Company

Most popular beer name and style your brewery brews:

Our most popular beer is our Hazy IPA which doesn’t have a name. We just call most of our beers what they are because, every time we think we have the perfect name, we discover that there are already 3-4 others when we Google it.

A brief description of the beer:

Our Hazy IPA is opaque, yet vibrant yellow in color with a big citrus hop aroma and flavor.

Why you believe it’s the most popular beer

I think people like it because it has a lot of flavor and character without going overboard in any way. It remains balanced and refreshing.

Anything else you’d like to add:

We are blessed to be in such a great community here in Colorado Springs and we appreciate all the love and support we’ve gotten.

Cerberus Brewing Co

Most popular beer name and style your brewery brews:

Elysium Hazy IPA

A brief description of the beer:

Our Flagship New England-style IPA, Elysium is hazy and tropical brewed with Apollo, Mosaic, Azacca, and Citra hops. Our staff has nicknamed this beer Big Kid Orange Juice, and it’s full of grapefruit, orange, and mango notes.

Why you believe it’s the most popular beer:

When we opened 5 years ago, hazies were still somewhat “new” out here. Elysium is very accessible for an IPA and was able to change some people’s minds about liking IPA because it didn’t taste like you were licking a pine tree. We think it’s a great introduction to New England IPAs but is complex enough that it’s sustainable as a favorite beer.

Anything else you’d like to add:

Elysium was the first beer we put in cans in December 2020 to continue finding revenue streams during the pandemic. It’s consistently a best seller on-site, to our bar/restaurant clients, and in liquor stores. Elysium is named after the paradise to which heroes on whom the Greek gods conferred immortality were sent.

Atrevida Beer Co.

Most popular beer name and style your brewery brews:

Name: Hibis-Kiss Whoever you want!

Style: American Blonde Ale

A brief description of the beer:

An American Blonde Ale made with real Hibiscus and subtle notes of real cinnamon, organic honey, and backend citrusy spices that marry all the flavors together. Sits at 6% ABV.

Why you believe it’s the most popular beer:

Every year we create a new beer in honor of our LGBTQIA+ community that is released for the month of Pride and stays on all year long until the following year. ‘Hibis-Kiss Whoever you want!’ was this year’s (2021) Pride beer. While it is relatively new it has very quickly become a customer favorite and we can barely keep up with it! I attribute that to its drinkability. It drinks like a sangria cocktail without all the cloying sweetness. Visually, it is gorgeous! A beautiful ruby red. The aroma is floral and sweet without it being “perfumey”. It is light-bodied, chock-full of flavor yet balanced. The perfect beer year-round!

Anything else you’d like to add:

I just want to say that I love what you are doing! Shedding light on the craft beer community in all facets from the brewer, to consumer, to in-house experience, and finally to the product itself is so important for folks to see. Sharing is caring! And, let us not forget it is a woman doing this! Hell yeah. Salud!

Phantom Brewing Company

Most popular beer name and style your brewery brews:

While we have many fan favorites along with a solid list of Flagship beers available year-round, I’d have to say the most popular beer we brew is our 719 IPA.

A brief description of the beer:

Brewed for all the local hop heads, our take on a West Coast-style IPA checks all the boxes. At first sight, the 719 IPA is a bright, glistening golden color with a rocky, white foamy head. Aromatics immediately pop out on the nose with notes of orange blossom and pine. As with any IPA, this beer was designed to highlight the character of the hops! A slight honey sweetness from the malt balances a crisp bitterness from a variety of hops, however, Citra and Mosaic hops are the real stars here with the late hop additions and heavy-handed dry-hopping we employ in the brewing process. Each sip delivers a burst of zesty grapefruit, ripe pineapple, a touch of guava all with a crisp, dry finish.

Why you believe it’s the most popular beer:

To pay homage to our local area code the ABV sits at 7.19%. To accomplish this, we pitch our yeast at specific rates and make sure our brewing process is consistent in mash temperature, original gravity, and fermentation from batch to batch.

Anything else you’d like to add:

719 IPA brew days are some of my favorites due to all the incredible smells throughout the day, and of course, there’s just nothing like pouring that first pint off a new batch!

Red Leg Brewing Co

Most popular beer name and style your brewery brews:

Howitzer Amber Ale

A brief description of the beer:

A ruby-copper-colored beer balanced between malt & hops. A distinct caramel aroma & flavor greets your palate with a pleasant malty finish. GABF Gold Winner, 2020, GABF Silver Winner 2019

Why you believe it’s the most popular beer:

It’s a solid beer! Just give it a taste!

Anything else you’d like to add:

If you haven’t come by our new expanded location at 2323 Garden of the Gods Rd, come on down! We’re open daily from 12-10 pm and would love to serve you!

Metric Brewing

Most popular beer name and style your brewery brews:

No Pulp, Hazy IPA

Description of the beer:

This fresh-squeezed Hazy IPA is never from concentrate. Dry-hopped with three pounds per barrel. Contains 0% juice. It contains Citra, Galaxy, and Mosaic hops.

Why you believe it’s the most popular beer you brew:

Hazy IPAs tend to be the most popular; that’s the trend. The allure is generally the juicy nature of that style of beer.

FH Beerworks

Most popular beer name and style your brewery brews:

Sticky Paws honey wheat.

Description of the beer:

It’s an American wheat beer made with locally harvested honey.

Why you believe it’s the most popular beer you brew:

We believe Sticky Paws gained its popularity for a couple reasons. For one, it’s brewed differently than most wheat beers. The grain profile and the yeast we use does not fit typical parameters for the style. These features, combined with local honey, give it a unique flavor. The other thing that makes it so popular is the fact that it’s 7.5% abv, but it drinks like a session beer.

Anything else you’d like to add:

Sticky Paws has been our most popular beer since before we even opened our doors. It made about 12 appearances at weddings as a homebrew, and every time, people would ask where they could get more.
